(Annals of the Four Masters)

This 1944 Irish stamp design commemorates the 300th Anniversary of the death of
Michael O'Clery. The inscription reads "To the Glory of God, and the Honor of
Ireland"
The four masters were Michael (Tadhg) O'Clery, his cousin Peregrinie (Cucogry) O'Clery,
Fearfasa O'Mulconry, and Peregrine O'Duigenan.
The Annals were compiled between 1632 and 1636 and are preserved by the
Franciscans in Switzerland.

Ruairc (O'Rourke) and the Ua Conchobhair (O'Conor) familes.

There are a number of later references to the surname Mac Tighearnain (Mc
Tiernan), but only one for the surname Ua Tighearnaigh (O'Tierney)
